Shallow keel on my sailboat- will it sail ok?

My last boats keel was maybe 3.5 feet below the hull. My new boats keel is a little less than a foot below the hull- much easier to haul but not sure how it will sail. Any suggestions on how to extend the keel if need be? Already thought of a dagger board, but not sure how that will work either.
