I'm trying to remember the name of a book...?

I read it in 5th or 6th grade and it's killing me that I can't remember!! It's a story from a young boy's side about his community re-creating the world.. almost like one of the is God or something. Anyway, this boy has a gift where he can see people's thoughts. One interesting thing I remember is he had a younger brother or a baby or something where he was the only one who thought/dreamt in color. Something about a sailboat... they were also the only two people that had blue eyes, the rest of the community had brown or something. There were women who's only job was to have children to build the community... I really don't remember much other than that. I almost feel it's something that starts with 'G' but I can't remember!! Please help! lol
