Whats easier to forget about an ex you still like?

i used to date this guy that seemed that only liked me to pass his time. We supposedly went out but we were on and off for about four months. Its been easier to forget about him when i wasn't talking to him. He began to talk to me after we "broke up" and i couldn't help it and began to talk to him. I was very weak and began telling him that i still liked him. This was a while time back ago. He recently text-ed me again and i don't know how to act around him. I don't want him to think that i'm still not over him but i don't want to stop talking to him either and we cant be friends because it would really hurt me.
