When did men stop being men?

Society seems to have gone a little too far I think. Men are expected to act like doormats it seems. I see examples everywhere. from the bumbling idiots projected as men on king of queens and the sorts. I know several men who are or were the victims of physical abuse, when i talk to them, they rationalize it away as their own fault. I knew a man who always bent over backward for his wife, did everything she wanted, at 55, healthy, ready for retirement, lots of money in his account (new sailboat and paid big house) . He committed suicide, I'm convinced it was for no other reason than of the years of emotional and psychlogical abuse from his wife. I support womens rights, women , should work and have equal treatment but I believe there's ridiculous expectations for men.
